Arsenal are ready to pay what it takes to land Sporting Lisbon wonderkid Joelson Fernandes, according to reports in Portugal.
Reports emerged recently that Arsenal are interested in Joelson, who made his senior debut for Sporting at the start of the month.
The 17-year-old is under contract until 2022, but Sporting have been trying to extend that to fend off interest from elsewhere. With comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo, Joelson is likely to be in demand.
On Saturday, Portuguese newspaper A Bola reported that Arsenal are set to make a €45m (£41m) offer that will trigger the release clause in his contract, with the bid ‘imminent’.
And now A Bola (via Sport Witness) is back this Friday to tell us that Arsenal are ‘crazy’ about the Sporting winger, with the headline on their latest piece saying: ‘Arsenal will really give €45m for Joelson’.
Kia Joorabchian, who is Joelson’s agent, will be handling negotiations as he has ‘privileged contacts’ with the Gunners.
The report expands by claiming that an offer is expected in the coming days from the north London outfit with Barcelona and Juventus also interested.
However, Arsenal, of course, would prefer to avoid the competition and the report suggests that they might pay his €45m release clause to do that.
The teenager would be offered a place in Mikel Arteta’s first team and provided with a five-year contract at the club.
