It is expected winger Ryan Colclough, who came off the bench during Saturday’s goalless Sky Bet League One derby with Port Vale, will be given a start.
Davis has no fresh injury concerns after that game, with Harry Davis and James Jones still the only two players unavailable.
Defender Davis has a knee problem, while midfielder Jones is sidelined by a shoulder complaint.
Jermaine Beckford and Jamie Jones are likely to miss out again for Preston at Gresty Road.
Striker Beckford has been hampered by a knock which kept him out of the final two weeks of pre-season and prevented him from featuring against Middlesbrough on Sunday, with boss Simon Grayson hoping he may possibly return at the weekend.
Second-choice goalkeeper Jones was absent with a groin injury for Boro’s visit so Steven James, who was due to go out on loan to Bamber Bridge last week, may be required to back up Jordan Pickford once again.
Grayson is keen to give minutes to the likes of new signings Marnick Vermijl and Greg Cunningham so they familiarise themselves with the formation, but Chris Humphrey is not considered fit enough to start after only just returning from representing Jamaica in the Gold Cup.
