Former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo “will be able to deal with” the criticism if he moves to arch-rivals Manchester City, according to his Portugal team-mate Jose Fonte.

Reports have claimed that Ronaldo has not taken part in Juventus training today as he pushes for a move away from the Serie A club.

It is likely his next destination will be Premier League side Man City with Ronaldo apparently agreeing a contract to move to the Etihad Stadium.

Solskjaer ‘bonus’ folly leaves Man United McF****d

Fabrizio Romano claims that Ronaldo ‘wants to leave the club in the next hours’ and has said ‘goodbye to his teammates’ after spending 40 minutes with them this morning.

The journalist adds that Ronaldo is ‘waiting for [Jorge] Mendes to bring the official bid as it’s still verbal with Man City’.

Some former players and fans have doubted the deal with Wayne Rooney unsure Ronaldo would risk his “legacy” at Man Utd for a move across the city.

However, Fonte reckons Ronaldo will be able to “deal” with any criticism he gets for making the move to the blue side of Manchester.

Fonte told talkSPORT: “At this stage of his career and the level of experience he has, he will be able to deal with that.

“It will be tough in the first few days, probably the first few months, but we’re all professionals in this sport, and it won’t be the first time that a player has played for Manchester United and Manchester City.

“I know he’s one of the biggest legends of Manchester United but listen, it’s football, they will have to learn and live with it. One thing is for sure, he loves the Premier League.”

Former Southampton defender Fonte, who now turns out in Ligue 1 for Lille, thinks Ronaldo will bring a “winning mentality” to Man City, which they already seem to have in abundance.

Fonte said: “He’s a guy who likes to be involved with everything.

“He’s a guy who we all know is one of the best professionals in the game, he’s a born winner.

“He wants to win every game, every single time at training, at anything he plays, he will be bringing that winning mentality.”
