According to reports in France, Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is “seeking to engineer” a transfer to Manchester City in the coming days.

The 36-year-old joined Juventus in 2018 from Spanish giants Real Madrid. He has scored 101 goals from his 134 outings for the Italian outfit.

Ronaldo’s current contract is set to expire in 2022 and he has been linked with a move to the likes of PSG and Man City in recent weeks.

One-handed column writing is hard and Arsenal are irrelevant

The forward did not start Juventus’ 2021/22 Serie A opener against Udinese on Sunday. He came on in the 60th minute as his side drew 2-2.

French outlet L’Equipe (as cited by GFFN) have reported that Ronaldo is “seeking to engineer” a move to Manchester City.

They state that this deal will be “very complicated” to complete. Ronaldo “has spoken with a number of Manchester City players about making the move”. The players he has reportedly spoken to are Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias and Joao Cancelo.

The former Man United star “believes that the deal will happen this summer”. The report adds that Man City are willing to pay his “€31m a year salary”, but they are unwilling to pay a high transfer fee.

Elsewhere, Jamie Carragher has suggested that Manchester United “could win the league” if Pep Guardiola was their manager:

“It seems whenever I listen to Gary or maybe Roy or Manchester United fans, the answer is always ‘go and spend £100m on someone’.

“That’s always the answer every time I’m on the show – go and blitz the transfer market.

“You’re talking about Chelsea buying Lukaku and – all of a sudden – on the back of yesterday and a good start to the season, it’s all about Chelsea going to win the league, it’s going to be them or City.

“Man Utd finished above them last season. They bought Varane and Sancho.

“I don’t get this feeling of Man Utd can’t compete. I feel if Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp or maybe even Thomas Tuchel had Manchester United’s squad, you’d feel they could win the league. I really believe that.

“And you’re comparing Liverpool and Manchester United. And yeah it’s been a similar sort of trajectory, and I think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done a really good job, but why don’t you compare it to Man City and Chelsea?

“Liverpool didn’t have the revenues to go for the league and compete right away. There’s no way Thomas Tuchel goes into Chelsea and they are accepting he’ll have three or four years spending that type of money.

“And Manchester United have spent the money City have done and they’ve spent the money Chelsea have done, so this thing of building, yes. But I don’t think Manchester United not winning the league this year or finishing third or fourth, that can’t be acceptable.”
