Mohamed Salah “certainly” has a chance of winning the Ballon d’Or, according to current holder Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo won the trophy for the past two years, while either he or Lionel Messi have claimed it every year since 2007.
Kaka was the last person to avoid the stranglehold enjoyed by the world’s two best players, but Salah has a chance to end their duopoly.
The Egyptian scored 44 goals in his first season at Liverpool, almost helping deliver a Champions League trophy.
Ronaldo, whose Real Madrid side beat Liverpool in May’s showpiece, says Salah can “enter the race”.
“Salah has been one of the revelations of the year,” Ronaldo said.
“I hope his injury in the final in Kiev doesn’t keep him out.
“Many people talk about the battle for the Ballon d’Or between between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi but there are other players who have a chance to enter the race. Salah is certainly one of them.”
