‘Daniel Levy will accept this bid’ – Pundits expect Harry Kane to depart as it’s time to ‘cash in’ at Tottenham
Darren Bent believes “Daniel Levy will accept” Bayern Munich’s bid for Harry Kane, and they won’t be much worse off without the striker, while Darren Ambrose feels Tottenham “need to cash in”.
Kane’s future might well be decided tonight (August 4). Indeed, Bayern Munich’s latest offer for the Spurs striker totals around £86million, and they’ve given Levy a midnight deadline to accept, or they’ll walk away.
That’ll give them enough time to pursue other options before they set about defending their Bundesliga title. Tottenham have already rejected advances from Bayern this summer, but may be convinced by the higher offer.
talkSPORT pundit Ambrose believes Spurs might have to let go at this point.
“I think now may be the time, I think Spurs need to cash in,” he said.
“That’s hard for me to say being a Spurs supporter, but they need to cash in. They need to get some money.”
While Kane has obviously offered Tottenham a lot – 280 goals in 10 seasons – he’s out of contract next summer, and Spurs have the chance of receiving £86million for him, or potentially nothing.
Former Tottenham striker Bent feels that due to that, the club may have no choice but to accept.
“It’s going to be interesting. I genuinely believe Daniel Levy will have to accept this bid,” he said.
“Because if Kane has got no desire to stay at Spurs at the end of the season when he’s on a free, then Levy is basically turning his back on £85m-plus and getting nothing.”
The former Spurs man also feels that losing Kane might not be the devastating move it might appear to be.
“The one thing I would say as well, and I love Kane, I’m a massive fan and I think he’s outstanding, world-class… but Spurs have won nothing with him,” Bent said.
“People have been saying if he goes, what do Spurs do? But they haven’t won anything anyway, so at some stage you’re going to have to move on.”
Indeed, Tottenham have won nothing with Kane in the side. But he did have one of the best seasons of his career last campaign, while it was a wildly disappointing season for the rest of the squad.
They finished eighth in the Premier League, and were it not for his 30 goals, that would’ve been a whole lot worse. As such, if they were to lose him, they might be plunged into the mire.
On the other hand, they might recruit another top striker who, along with the other new signings, could have a big impact. It’ll be difficult for anyone to have the same sort of impact as Kane, though.
