Drinkwater’s spell at Villa in doubt after headbutting team-mate

Danny Drinkwater’s spell on loan at Aston Villa could be over after he headbutted team-mate Jota, according to reports.

The 29-year-old has three England caps and helped Leicester City win the Premier League in 2015-16, but failed to make an impact at Chelsea following his £40m move from the Foxes in 2017.

Drinkwater has made just 12 Premier League appearances for the Blues in that time, and returned to the club in January after an unsuccessful loan period at Burnley during the first half of the season.

Villa snapped him up before the end of the January transfer window on another loan deal but it has been similarly disappointing with no goals or assists in four Premier League starts.

And the Daily Mail claims that his future at Aston Villa is now in ‘serious jeopardy’ after Drinkwater ‘headbutted Jota in training on Tuesday during an angry exchange with his colleague.’

Villa, who find themselves 19th and two points adrift of safety, are ‘giving serious consideration to cutting short his spell’ with a ‘final decision’ yet to be made.
