Welbeck secures Brighton stay by signing one-year deal
Danny Welbeck will remain in the Premier League next season after signing a contract extension with Brighton.
The Englishman joined Brighton in October last year after opting to leave Watford on a free transfer.
He reached nine goal contributions in 24 games during his first campaign at the Amex Stadium.

Welbeck has impressed Seagulls manager Graham Potter and has earned a new one-year deal.
Speaking about the striker, Potter told the club’s official website: “We’re delighted that he’s with us for next season.
“Danny has demonstrated what is expected of a top professional from the moment he arrived here. As soon as the season finished, extending his stay at the club was a top priority.
“He is a brilliant role model to have around the place and his experience at the very top end of the game is invaluable for helping us continuing to improve as a team.”
Welbeck opened his account in 2020/21 with a lovely finish against Aston Villa. He ran over half the length of the pitch before chipping the ball over Emi Martinez and into the net.
He ended the season strongly, picking up four goals and two assists in his final 10 appearances.
Following his goal against Leeds in May, which helped Brighton on their way to a 2-0 victory, Potter said: “Danny Welbeck has that quality. He has scored some good goals for us.
“He has contributed to what we have done on the pitch. He is a Premier League player and he has fantastic attributes as a player and a person.”
The 30-year-old started his career with Manchester United. He made 142 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 29 goals, and won a host of trophies including two Premier League titles.
A move to Arsenal followed in September 2014 after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
He added two FA Cup winners medals to his collection during a five-year spell in north London.
Watford became his next destination in August 2019. He spent one season at Vicarage Road but only managed three goals in 20 matches as the Hornets were relegated from the top flight.
