‘You can’t beat Rooney’ – Pundit claims Kane not in top five PL strikers

Darren Bent claims that Tottenham’s Harry Kane is not yet in top five greatest Premier League strikers of all time with Wayne Rooney still the “full package” when it comes to English strikers.

The Spurs striker has been in stunning form so far this season, scoring six goals and providing eight assists in just seven league matches.

At 27, Kane is already joint-tenth in the Premier League all-time goalscorers list and he’ll be aiming to score another 112 goals to take over Alan Shearer at the summit.

There are some legendary Premier League strikers on that list and Bent thinks Kane is still some way off  being classed as a “great”.

“Kane’s certainly got the potential – if he carries on on this path – to be one of the greats,” Bent said on talkSPORT.

“I don’t think I put him in the top five yet. Longevity has to play a part.

“He’s got 149 Premier League goals in 213 games, which is extraordinary. But when you look at the all-round package of what he does, when Wayne Rooney was at his absolute maximum, you can’t tell me Kane is better.

“It’s only now we’re starting to see the full package with Kane. You think about all the positions Rooney got asked to play. He played everywhere.

“You forget how good he was. So to say Harry Kane is the best English centre-forward, I don’t think so.

“I’m a big fan of Kane and he’s one of those strikers where every time they get the ball around the box you’re thinking it’s a goal.

“Potentially Kane could be the best but if you’re looking at the full package, holding the ball up, bringing others into play, technique… you can’t beat Rooney.”

It might well be the biggest weekend of the season so far. The two biggest title contenders finally clash in a long-awaited meeting, but will Leicester or Wolves come out on top? Liverpool also play Manchester City or something apparently.
