Ornstein reveals why King to Man Utd deal is ‘not happening’

Josh King will not be joining Manchester United because Bournemouth are unable to bring in a striker themselves, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer coached King during his time as Under-23s coach at Old Trafford and the United boss is said to have made an attempt to being the Norway forward back to the club.

But The Telegraph reported yesterday that Man Utd‘s enquiry was not considered by the relegation-threatened Cherries.

And Ornstein has shed further light on that with a claim that the Cherries were only willing to let King leave if they could bring in a replacement for their striker.

Ornstein wrote on The Athletic transfer deadline day blog: “The Manchester United conversations with Bournemouth around signing Josh King were on the basis of the Cherries bringing in a striker themselves (Jarrod Bowen was among the names mentioned) but that is not happening.”

United have also been linked with Odion IghaloSalomon Rondon and Vedat Muriqi.
