Liverpool are in a race against time to secure the signing of Fulham teenager Fabio Carvalho, according to reports.

With the transfer window closing at 23:00 on Monday, the Reds are aiming to get the 19-year-old through the door in time.

They have been interested in signing the player all month. He is out of contract at Craven Cottage in the summer.

Best, worst and ‘who the f***?’ of every January deadline day

Due to his contract situation, Carvalho is available for as little as €10m, with his current employers very keen to keep hold of him for the rest of the season.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Portugal-born England under-18 international is having his Liverpool medical after accepting the contract terms.

The Italian journalist also confirmed that Carvalho will remain at Fulham on loan until the end of 2021/22.

Romano wrote on Twitter: ‘Fabio Carvalho to Liverpool, agreement in place for total fee around €10m after 2 hours meeting tonight.

‘Five-year deal ready for Carvalho. Time to prepare paperworks and sign before midnight then… here we go. He’ll stay at Fulham on loan.’

He added: ‘Medical ongoing in order to sign paperworks before deadline. Carvalho has accepted all clauses into the contract. It’s a race against time now.’

Carvalho has been at Fulham since 2014 and has made 25 appearances for the Cottagers.

He scored in one of his four Premier League appearances last term; netting in a 3-1 defeat at Southampton.

Meanwhile, Liverpool defender Nat Phillips has joined Championship side Bournemouth on loan until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old impressed for the Reds last season while they were without injured defensive trio Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

Phillips played 17 times in the Premier League during the 2020/21 campaign. He has fallen down the pecking order this term though.

He has only started one game this campaign. That came in the Champions League group stages against AC Milan.

With game time scarce, the centre-half has joined Bournemouth for the remainder of 21/22, Liverpool confirmed on deadline day.
