Troy Deeney has offered a weird explanation for his weird goal celebration against Chelsea.
Deeney scored from the penalty spot as Watford defeated Premier League champions Chelsea on Monday evening.
The striker proceeded to celebrate by holding up both middle fingers, which he says was in response to “transfer speculation”.
“Obviously we’ve had a lot of transfer talk and transfer speculation,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live. “I’ve kept quiet because I realise talking gets me in trouble.
“That was a case of letting everyone know I saw everything and I’m still here.”
Because that’s how we’d all react to being linked with West Brom.
The FA are thought to be investigating footage of the gesture ahead of a potential punishment for Deeney, who has already served two bans this season.
Dele Alli was suspended for one game for making a similar gesture during an England game last year.
