Dele Alli returns to Everton early from Besiktas loan after relationship with manager ‘hit rock bottom’
Dele Alii has returned to Everton after picking up an injury while on loan at Turkish club Besiktas, as his dramatic fall from grace continues.
The former England international was offloaded by Frank Lampard at the start of the season after falling down the pecking order and looks unlikely to play for the Toffees again.
Alli’s switch to Besiktas represented a chance for him to get his career back on track, but he has clearly failed to do so.
The ex-Tottenham golden boy had a public falling out with the Turkish giant’s manager Senol Gunes, after reportedly going AWOL from training in late March.
Now, Alli’s loan with Besiktas has come to an abrupt end after being given permission to return to England to recover from an injury.
According to talkSPORT, the midfielder’s injury requires ‘specialist treatment’ from a doctor in the UK, while his relationship with Gunes is ‘already at rock bottom.’
The Everton outcast has not played a game since the 26th of February after being sidelined by the manager.
As noted in talkSPORT’s report, in late March Gunes took aim at Alli after he was pictured with Kim Kardashian’s son following Arsenal’s defeat to Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League.
“Dele Alli, whom we have allowed [a break], has not come yet. It must be raining, we are trying to get news,” Gunes said.
However, Alli tried to clear up the situation on Instagram by insisting that he had been allowed to visit the doctor.
He wrote: “Hey guys, just had loads of messages so wanted to clear something up.
“The club gave me permission to attend a doctor’s appointment today. I’m due back in training tomorrow as normal.”
However, Alli ultimately failed to make another appearance for the Dutch club.
Overall, in 15 appearances for Besiktas, the Englishman scored three goals and made zero assists.
Alli effectively continued his lacklustre form from the previous season at Everton, where he played 13 times under Lampard and failed to make a single goal contribution.
Although, he did put in one solid performance against Crystal Palace in the penultimate game of the season, as the Toffees battled back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 and secure their Premier League status.
For that, Evertonians remain grateful, but due to a clause in his contract, he is unlikely to play for the Merseysiders again.
Indeed, when Alli was signed from Tottenham in January 2022, the deal involved a clause which meant if he played 20 games for Everton, they would have to pay Spurs £10m.
There have also been accusations against the midfielder that he has not put in enough effort in training this season, something that is unlikely to go down well with Sean Dyche.
Also, if he is indeed injured, that could potentially rule him out until the end of the season anyway.
With his current deal valid until June 2024, Everton will most likely look to offload Alli this summer. The only question is if anyone will be willing to sign him.
