Dele Alli sat out England training on Thursday, but boss Gareth Southgate was passed fit to lead the session despite the discomfort of a dislocated shoulder.

Southgate took a tumble while running alone near England’s World Cup camp in Repino earlier this week and was treated in a nearby hospital.

There was no sign of the black sling he had been pictured wearing on Wednesday as Southgate took charge as normal alongside assistant Steve Holland.

Southgate appeared in good spirits and made little concession to his injury, keeping his right arm close to his body but otherwise showing no outward signs of pain.

Alli, on the other hand, was not present for the session at Spartak Zelenogorsk.

The Tottenham midfielder suffered a quad injury in the 2-1 win over Tunisia and is a doubt for Sunday’s game against Panama.

Goalkeepers Jordan Pickford, Jack Butland and Nick Pope completed their drills to the sounds of a playlist being pumped through a large outdoor speaker.

At the other end of the pitch, the 19 available outfield players took part in a light warm-up before the serious preparations began behind closed doors.
