Di Canio names star ‘who’s not suitable for Klopp’s game’ at Liverpool
West Ham legend Paolo Di Canio is of the belief that Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara is “not suitable for Jurgen Klopp’s game”.
Liverpool faced Inter Milan in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday.
The Reds had a 2-0 advantage heading into the return leg.

Lautaro Martinez scored as Inter won 1-0 at Anfield. They caused Liverpool problems but the English side triumphed 2-1 on aggregate.
Fabinho, Curtis Jones and Thiago started in midfield for this game. The latter signed for Liverpool in 2020 for £20m from Bayern Munich.
The 30-year-old has been impacted by injury this term but he has still been able to play 21 times across all competitions.
Di Canio does not think Thiago is “suitable” for Klopp’s style of play at Liverpool:
“Liverpool did not win 5-0 in the first leg. Tonight, they tried to manage by playing with a midfield that underestimated the strength of Inter,” Di Canio said (via Liverpool Echo)
“In fact, (Klopp) made the first two changes there, even if it is true that he also makes them in the Premier League.
“You can’t play with Curtis Jones, who is a reliable kid, along with two more experienced ones. And Thiago Alcantara, who’s not suitable for Klopp’s game.”
“Poor. No, I’m not having it. I’m absolutely not having it. He wins the ball clearly. He follows through and, if anything, the players meet.
“The game is gone. It has. It’s gone. It’s never a second yellow. Never.
“I just think there is no common sense. The way he goes into the tackle, there is no threat. There is no danger.
“It’s just a natural follow through, for me. I just think some common sense should be shown. I really do.
“He’s won the ball. Are you telling me that he shouldn’t go to win that ball? Look how low his leg is. He’s bringing his leg away. In slow motion it makes it look worse.
“First and foremost he’s stupid for the giving the referee and opportunity to make the decision. No one can debate that but I still think it’s harsh to give a yellow card.
“It’s a foul, yes, in today’s game but I don’t believe it’s a yellow card.”
