Man Utd outcast ‘offered’ to Roma as £35m flop ‘explores options’ to end Old Trafford nightmare

Jose Mourinho’s Roma have been offered the chance to sign Man Utd midfielder Donny van de Beek on loan, according to reports in Italy.
Van de Beek made his name at Ajax, helping the Eredisivie side reach the last four of the Champions League in 2019, before securing a £35million move to Old Trafford in September 2020.
It has been very difficult for the 26-year-old at Old Trafford. He struggled for game time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, playing a little over 500 minutes in the Premier League in his debut season at the club.
Since then, Van de Beek has managed 813 minutes across all competitions for the Red Devils.
He was given the chance to play at Everton during the second half of 2021/22, appearing six out of six matches for the Toffees before suffering an injury that ruled him out until the final day of the campaign.
Following Man Utd’s appointment of the player’s former Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag, many believe Van de Beek would be rescued and would become more important at Old Trafford, but once again, injury struck and he was ruled out for the entire season when he suffered a serious knee injury in January.

Ten Hag is eager to sign a new central midfielder with Chelsea’s Mason Mount his top target, meaning the Dutchman may struggle for game time once again next season.
This has opened the door for another temporary exit, with interest coming from Italy.
According to Sport Mediaset, Man Utd ‘proposed’ Van de Beek to Roma, though the Serie A side are not sure if they should sign the Dutch international, who has been ‘held back by injuries’.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio also wrote on Twitter that the Red Devils have ‘offered’ the midfielder on loan.
However, Van de Beek is ‘not a priority’ for Mourinho and the club will ‘evaluate’ the situation ‘in the next few days’.
Di Marzio told Sky Sports News on Thursday: “The priority of AS Roma is selling players, for example [Justin] Kluivert to Bournemouth is really, really close.
“Roma will think about Van de Beek in the next days and then we will see if Van de Beek is coming to Italy.”
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claimed on Thursday morning that Van de Beek is ‘exploring options to leave Man Utd’.
Romano says Roma are ‘currently not in talks or concrete negotiations’ to complete the signing, with ‘multiple clubs keeping an eye on the situation’.
