‘I don’t know what deadlines mean’ – Kane ‘invested’ at Tottenham despite Bayern distraction

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has stated he doesn’t “know what deadlines mean” in a transfer pursuit, but Harry Kane remains “invested” at the club amid Bayern Munich distractions.

Kane has been the subject of attempts from Bayern to sign him for some time. They’ve been actively working towards the transfer throughout the summer, and have made multiple bids.

The latest is said to be worth north of £86million, and Bayern apparently set Tottenham a deadline of midnight on Friday (August 4) to respond to it, or they’d walk away from the table.

Spurs boss Postecoglou seems somewhat bewildered by Bayern’s need to set a deadline for the transfer, suggesting the only one that matters is the end of the window.

“From my perspective, I don’t know what deadlines mean. We know there’s one deadline: that’s the end of the transfer window,” he said, quoted by Metro.

“I certainly wouldn’t talk about contracted players at other clubs. I’m not at Bayern though so they can do what they want.”

Whether or not there is a chance Kane leaves, Postecoglou is working on the premise that he’s still his player, and will use him as such.

“There’s no doubt that I would use Harry [on the Premier League opening day],” Postecoglou said.

“I didn’t need today to tell me that. He’s world class. The way this team will play will help him as well. We’ll create a lot of chances for him.”

Indeed, Kane bagged four goals in a friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk. While Postecoglou would have picked the star for the opener against Brentford anyway, the performance showed the manager he’s very much still eager to have an impact for Tottenham.

“I’m in open dialogue with Harry and with the club on a regular basis. I’ve said to them that if the status quo changes then inform me. I don’t need to know about the comings and goings in between,” Postecoglou added.

“I’m working with what’s in front of me. You saw today that Harry certainly is invested in what we’re doing and we’ll keep on doing that unless something changes.”

There’s no reason anything should change from Tottenham’s perspective until Kane does leave. If they plan for him doing so and he doesn’t, they’ve wasted him.

But he remains settled at the club for now, and his manager is clearly happy to have him to call upon.
