According to reports, Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram ‘will go to Liverpool’ despite interest from European giants Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Liverpool have already spent around £95m to sign Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai from Brighton and RB Leipzig.

But with Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago all being linked with moves elsewhere, Liverpool could be forced back into the transfer market for at least one more new midfielder.

The Premier League outfit are being heavily linked with Southampton starlet Romeo Lavia, who is also attracting interest from rivals Arsenal.

Thuram has also emerged as a potential target for Liverpool following his impressive emergence in Ligue 1 with Nice.

At one stage, it appeared that Thuram would be Liverpool’s next signing, but recent reports have claimed that they have cooled their interest in the defensive midfielder.

Yet according to Spanish outlet Nacional (who are far from reliable), Thuram ‘will go to Liverpool’ this summer.

Nice ‘do not plan to accept less than 50 million euros (£42.8m)’ for their ‘diamond in the rough’. This is an ‘unacceptable figure’ for Barcelona but ‘correct’ for Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

It’s claimed that Thuram is ‘number one’ on Jurgen Klopp’s list of targets and they have ‘taken the lead’ in the race to sign him. It is also stated at the end of this article (which needs to be taken with a pinch of salt) that his ‘arrival at a giant’ is expected ‘in a matter of days’.

GOAL’s Liverpool correspondent Neil Jones is a far more reputable source when it comes to matters at the Premier League club. He cannot see them spending more than £40m on their next signing.

“I think Lavia would be a very interesting signing for Liverpool because he plays a little bit deeper than the other midfielders who have been linked; he’s more of a 6 than an 8, or has been in his short professional career,” Jones recently told Empire of the Kop.

“Khephren Thuram… Liverpool clearly like him and have liked him for some time. Whether France’s exit from the European U21 Championship impacts their ability now to go and get a deal done… Possibly. I think it doesn’t make it any more difficult. I think the question is obviously what kind of price Nice are selling at.

“I would be surprised if Liverpool were going to spend another £60m on a player. I think it would be more, at tops, £40m. That probably fits with these two players. If there’s a deal to be done, £30-40m for either player – Liverpool would be very interested. It’s whether it goes above that and goes into the £40-50m mark.
