According to reports, Chelsea have been “left shocked” by the “Mason Mount situation” and the Man Utd target has “caused real issues” at Stamford Bridge.

Mount is out of contract in 2024 and it has become increasingly apparent in recent months that he will not be extending his contract at Chelsea.

The Englishman has been a sensational player for the Blues but his form has dipped this season. This is not deterring Chelsea’s rivals, though. Liverpool have been heavily linked with him but Man Utd are understood to be leading the race to sign the midfielder.

Over the weekend, it was reported that Mount has ‘told Chelsea’ that he wants to finalise a move to Old Trafford.

Journalist Graeme Bailey has now told TEAMtalk that “Mount’s people seem hurt by previous talks” with Chelsea, who are holding out for “in excess of £75m”.

“Mason Mount’s situation has caused real issues at Chelsea,” Bailey told TEAMtalk. “They really don’t want him to go, but they are standing firm on their stance that a player will not be able to run out a contract.

“Mount is seemingly on his way out of Chelsea and his representatives including his father Tony have agreed terms in principle with Man Utd.

“Chelsea have been left shocked by the Mount situation and safe to say they have not been too happy with the actions of the player’s representatives led by Tony.

“They still had some hope that he would stay with the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino but the damage has been done, Mount’s people seem hurt by previous talks and that is not going away.

“And whilst Chelsea are willing to sell, they are firm in their assertion that they will only part ways at the right price. They are thinking in excess of £75m and that is way more than Man Utd are currently willing to pay, so it’s worth keeping an eye on that aspect.”

As well as Mount, Man Utd are looking to sign a new striker and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane is among their main targets.

The Red Devils could also look to replace David De Gea, who at the time of writing, is yet to sign a new contract.

United are said to be ‘most interested’ in Porto’s €75m rated Diogo Costa as a potential replacement long-term for De Gea.

Portuguese outlet A Bola are now reporting that Costa is ‘packed for the Premier League’.

The 23-year-old ‘will leave’ Porto this summer and Man Utd have ‘taken the lead in the race for the Portugal international, who is also attracting interest from Chelsea and Newcastle.
