Crystal Palace striker Odsonne Edouard has reflected on his “dream debut” after he came off the bench to score a brace against Tottenham on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles soared to a 3-0 victory courtesy of the Frenchman’s brace and Wilfried Zaha’s penalty which opened the scoring.

Edouard was brought on by Patrick Vieira with six minutes remaining and only took 28 seconds to score his first Premier League goal.

He added a second in stoppage time from close range to conclude a dismal afternoon for Spurs, but a brilliant one for Palace.

“It’s a dream debut for me. I waited a long, long time for this and I’m very happy to score for the first win in front of the fans,” Edouard told the club’s official website.

“I didn’t believe it… I need to enjoy it and for sure I’ll watch again my goals tonight. I’m very happy.

“[The manager] said, ‘Help the team, make a lot of runs behind. Try to help the team defensively and play like you do well’. So after I came on I wanted to score and help the team.

“It’s good I scored two goals and I’ll enjoy tonight, but tomorrow I go back to work.

“I want to work hard for next week and now this game is finished I want to forget and work hard for a good performance again.”

The 23-year-old also reflected on his first days as a Palace player: “The training was very good. The guys at the club, the team, the staff is unbelievable. They welcomed me very well and it feels easy for me,” he added.

His manager, Vieira, said this about the £14million man: “I’m really pleased for Edouard because he just arrived a couple of days ago and he’s training well with the team and starting to know his team-mates. But the way he finished, it just shows that he’s a proper goalscorer.

“He’s a player inside the box who will take his chances. He’s really comfortable around that area. He’s a goalscorer and I think there is more to come from him.”
