Manchester United transfer target Eduardo Camavinga would prefer to join Real Madrid this summer, according to reports.

The French wonderkid has been tipped for a major move after entering the final year of his contract with Rennes.

The Ligue 1 outfit are reluctant to sell one of their star players but would rather do that than risk losing him for free next summer.

Five reasons for Spurs to be cheerful – even if *he* leaves

United and Real are two of his most likely destinations, alongside French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has apparently put a new midfielder on his transfer wish list.

With Camavinga already performing at a high level, despite being just 18 years old, he fits the bill.

United recently started discussions with Camavinga and his agent over a move to the Premier League.

But Manchester Evening News has described the talks as ‘not encouraging’ because the player would prefer to join Real Madrid.

The report claims that Camavinga was prevented from joining up with France at the Tokyo Olympics as Rennes are prioritising a deal for the player before the transfer window ends.

Rennes want to receive a significant amount for Camavinga following the collapse of a TV deal with Mediapro in the country’s top flight.

Despite this, a cut-price fee of just £25.7million has been touted in recent weeks.

Camavinga has been given the club’s number ten shirt and has already played 82 times at senior level.

He put in some strong performances last season to help Rennes finish sixth in the table, above the likes of Montpellier and Nice.

Real president Florentino Perez is known to be interested in a transfer.

He sees Camavinga as a potential legend in the Spanish capital, alongside his compatriot Kylian Mbappe.

But Los Blancos’ finances have been badly affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Their only new signing so far has been David Alaba, who joined on a free transfer after the expiry of his Bayern deal.

That means Perez might have to sell some of his prized assets before Camavinga can be taken to the Bernabeu.

United, meanwhile, could target Atletico star Saul Niguez if their pursuit of Camavinga falls through.

The Spain international is being linked with a summer move despite signing a huge nine-year contract with Atletico in 2017.

Manager Diego Simeone recently said he would give Saul ‘a big hug’ if the 26-year-old decided to pursue a new challenge.
