Spurs ready ‘offensive’ for Chelsea target as Ange ‘sets his sights’ on ‘soap opera’ after Kane bid
Tottenham will reportedly pursue Chelsea-linked Montpellier striker Elye Wahi if they sell Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.
According to reports, the Premier League club have accepted a bid worth around £86.4m from Bayern, who have gone all out to sign the England captain a year before his contract runs out.
Daniel Levy is very reluctant to lose Kane but a sale to Bayern is obviously preferable to allowing the player to join a direct rival on a free transfer in 2024.
Kane is yet to make a decision on his future so could opt to stay at Spurs, which would be fairly unambitious but also understandable as he can have a pick of clubs next year, get closer to the all-time Premier League goalscoring record, and avoid packing up and moving to a new country when his wife is expecting their fourth child.
If the 30-year-old does leave, Ange Postecoglou has a huge task on his hand replacing a player who is essentially irreplaceable.
Nobody who Spurs bring in will be able to hold a candle to Kane, but there are plenty of options out there.
One player Postecoglou is interested in signing is Montpellier’s Elye Wahi, who has been the subject of a failed bid from Chelsea this summer.
French outlet Foot Mercato claims that Spurs now have Wahi ‘in their sights’ despite Paris Saint-Germain ‘contacting’ Montpellier.
PSG are in the market for a new forward as they look to sell Kylian Mbappe and the 20-year-old could be a terrific addition, or someone like Hugo Ekitike who fails to impress.
The report says that the Wahi saga is ‘undoubtedly one of the soap operas of the summer in Ligue 1’ after an ‘incredible season’ in which he scored 19 goals and provided six assists in 32 Ligue 1 appearances.
It is claimed that Marseille and Arsenal have also shown an interest, though they did not do what Chelsea have done and make an official bid for the youngster – which was apparently in the region of €28million (£24.1million).
A loan switch to the Blues’ sister club Strasbourg has been mooted should Wahi make the move to Stamford Bridge, though it is said the player is ‘reluctant’ to play for Montpellier’s Ligue 1 rivals.
Spurs, meanwhile, are ‘very hot on the file’ and could ‘quickly decide to go on the offensive’.
Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt are also keen and may make their move if Randal Kolo Muani departs this summer.
