Fenerbahce are reportedly preparing a last-minute offer for Aston Villa midfielder Leander Dendoncker before the Turkish transfer window closes on Friday.

The 28-year-old signed for Aston Villa from Wolves for approximately £15m last summer during the reign of Steven Gerrard. He has fallen down the pecking order at Villa Park since Unai Emery’s arrival at the club.

The likes of Douglas Luiz, John McGinn and Boubacar Kamara are all preferred by Emery.

Dendoncker started just nine Premier League matches last season is yet to make a league appearance this term. He did play 21 minutes against Hibernian in a Europa League qualifier, though.

Now, according to Football Insider, Emery has ‘informed Dendoncker that he is free to quit Aston Villa,’ with the midfielder evidently not in the manager’s plans for the future.

The report claims that the Belgium international has been ‘shortlisted’ by Fenerbahce as their manager, Ismail Kartal, is looking to bolster his midfield options.

As reported by Football365, Everton centre-mid Andre Gomes is thought to be close to joining Fenerbahce too, so Dendoncker could potentially follow him to the Turkish club.

Football Insider add that Fenerbahce’s intermediaries have ‘held talks’ with the Aston Villa man’s entourage and although no offer has been made yet, a deal is described as ‘possible.’

Dendoncker’s contract at Villa Park is valid until 2027 and he earns a reported wage of £75,000 per week, so it’s no surprise that Emery is looking to get him off the books.

It isn’t clear what kind of a transfer fee Aston Villa would be willing to accept for the midfielder, but he is definitely a player to keep a close eye on over the next three days.
