Arsenal manager Unai Emery has explained why he has made a U-turn over Calum Chambers’ future.
Chambers completed a season-long loan move to Fulham on Wednesday, just over a month after signing a new contract at Arsenal.
Emery stated in no uncertain terms that Chambers “will be part of my plans this season” at the time, with the defender thought to be a candidate to partner Sokratis at centre-half.
Chambers even turned down four Premier League clubs to stay in north London and compete for a place, but has made the short move to newly-promoted Fulham instead.
Emery told the Arsenal website why he sanctioned the deal.
“Calum is a talented defender who has a bright future,” he said.
“We all believe this loan at Fulham will be an important part of his development and wish him a successful season.”
