Arsenal boss Unai Emery thinks Mesut Ozil needs to improve his “consistency” if he is to regain his place in the starting XI.
The German playmaker has appeared just once in the last seven Premier League matches for the Gunners
But Ozil has fallen out of favour under Wenger’s successor Emery, having started just one game since Boxing Day to once more bring scrutiny as to whether he will remain at the Emirates Stadium.
“The key is in his hands,” said Emery. “He is working very well this week.
“I ask him in our conversation for consistency, to be available for us for training, when you can train consistently you can help us with your best performance in the games.
“This week has been good for all the players. I am looking at him doing the training like we want.
“He needs to be available consistently for training, without the injuries, without the sickness. Without that we cannot see the best Mesut with us.”
