Eriksen told ‘he can do better than Man Utd’ amid talk of return to Tottenham Hotspur

Denmark international Christian Eriksen has been told that “he can do better than Man Utd” amid reports linking him with a move back to Tottenham Hotspur.

Eriksen was forced to leave Inter Milan as rules in Serie A prevented him from playing with a defibrillator.

The midfielder returned to the Premier League earlier this year as he joined Brentford on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old hit the ground running for the Bees. He was involved in five goals in eleven appearances in the Premier League.

Eriksen is set to be out of contract as he only penned a deal until the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

The likes of Man Utd and Tottenham have been heavily linked with him in recent months.

Spurs can offer him Champions League football. But if he joined United, he would be playing in the Europa League.

Ex-Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor has now claimed that Eriksen “can do better” than Man Utd:

“I think he [Eriksen] has got a relationship with Conte,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.

“He was his manager at Inter Milan, so that is an option for him.

“But maybe he will not want to go back to a club that he has already been at, the way he left as well was not great.

“I am sure he has got so many options.

“Talk about Manchester United, but, I do not know, maybe he can do better than Manchester United.”

Elsewhere, Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal has warned Ajax centre-back Jurrien Timber against a summer transfer to Manchester United.

Timber has been linked with following Erik ten Hag to Old Trafford this summer, as the new United boss plans an overhaul of the squad.

But Van Gaal, who has plenty of options at centre-back, including Virgil van Dijk, Matthijs de Ligt and Nathan Ake, believes Timber would be better served playing for a side where he is guaranteed game time ahead of the World Cup in Qatar this winter.

“I think a player of his quality can play in the Premier League. That is not a problem,” Van Gaal said.

“If he has to make this big step now, that’s the question.

“It is not so wise I think [to move to United]. He has to play.”
