Tim Sherwood thinks Christian Eriksen should remain at Tottenham if he wants to win trophies.

The Dane’s future has been up in the air all summer after he said he was looking for a fresh challenge as he entered the final year of his contract, but a move to a top European club has not materialised.

Real Madrid were the main side linked with a move for Eriksen but there was no concrete interest from the La Liga side and the 27-year-old remains in north London.

“He’s running his contract down for a reason, and it wouldn’t be a money-motivated reason,” Sherwood told Sky Sports.

“Christian Eriksen wants to leave the football club because he wants to go to a club where he thinks he can win trophies.

“But I believe that’s a difficult task, to find a club better than Tottenham to win trophies right now.”

Manchester United have also been linked with Eriksen over the summer with a report in The Sun claiming they made a £70m bid for the Spurs midfielder.

And that report from Tuesday adds that United will look to bid again in January as Eriksen enters the final six months of his contract, with the hope that Tottenham will be forced to do business.
