European giants make fresh approach for Arsenal midfielder who’s already said yes to move

Gianluca Di Marzio has reported Juventus have made ‘new contacts’ regarding a move for Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey, after he greenlit the move some time ago.

The midfield at Arsenal could have a significantly different makeup to it at the start of next season to what it had in the last campaign. Indeed, new signings Declan Rice and Kai Havertz have both occupied midfield roles in pre-season.

What’s more, Granit Xhaka has left the club, and some more midfielders could soon follow him out the door. Partey has been subject to interest from a few sides over the past few months.

One of those is Serie A side Juventus, and the Ghanaian reportedly gave the thumbs up to that move at the end of June. In fact, it was stated at the time that he was ‘keen on the move’ and Juve were expected to accelerate the deal.

While things went silent for a while, they’re back in the mix now. That’s according to insider Di Marzio, who states the European giants have made ‘new contacts’ regarding Partey.

However, the potential that he signs for Juventus hinges on ‘another exit’. Denis Zakaria is mentioned as a player who could leave in a £17million move to Monaco.

Previous reports suggested Partey would command a fee from £15.5-17million. As such, it seems there is a genuine chance that he does make the move if Zakaria is to depart.

Partey started two of four pre-season games, while he also appeared in 33 Premier League games last season. As such, it’s unclear if Arsenal would let him go.

From Partey’s perspective, he may be more interested in the move than he was previously, given the additions of Rice and Havertz at the club.

There’s a chance he is not the only midfielder to leave the Emirates before the end of the summer. It’s been reported recently that January signing Jorginho has decided to depart, letting Arsenal know of his decision.

Subsequently, Fenerbahce are said to have contacted the Gunners to find out the conditions of a potential move for him.

However, the midfielder’s agent stated that his client was “very happy” at Arsenal not long ago, and for this season they were thinking of “only the Gunners”.

While there’s a chance that Jorginho may have decided to leave having seen more midfielders join, it seems there’s less chance of him doing so than Partey.

He likely joined the club knowing he was not always going to start, whereas Partey will be more expectant of a regular role in the side, and Juventus might well offer him that.
