Everton join Arsenal and Spurs in race for Serie A attacker
Everton have ‘now joined’ Arsenal and Tottenham in the race for Lazio attacker Joaquin Correa.
This is according to Corriere Dello Sport, who claim that the Serie A club are happy to sell Correa this summer with the Toffees joining the north London duo in the race to buy him.
The report states that club president Claudio Lotito met with manager Maurizio Sarri and director of football Igli Tare in Auronzo di Cadore earlier this week to discuss transfer business.
Cautious optimism at Arsenal summer transfer business…
The overall feeling from the meeting is that the squad needs some new additions, and raising funds is imperative in being able to do so.
Enter Correa. The Argentine is likely to cost around €30million, which would be enough for Lazio to sign some new recruits.
It was reported earlier this month that Correa would cost closer to €50m, but this more recent report states otherwise.
Arsenal have recently tied up Emile Smith Rowe to a new long-term contract but are still in the market for an attacking midfielder.
They have been linked with the likes of Houssem Aouar from Lyon and Leicester City talisman James Maddison, but Correa is an option, albeit an unlikely one.
Spurs on the other hand appear to be prioritising signings in other positions.
The north Londoner’s announced the signing of goalkeeper Gianluigi Collini earlier today and are also eyeing up a move for his ex-Atalanta teammate Cristian Romero.
Versatile defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is another name being linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Despite this, the club’s sporting director of football Fabio Paratici is apparently a big fan of Correa.
Everton have been very active in the transfer market this week, confirming three signings.
Asmir Begovic, Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend have all made the move to Goodison Park, but the Toffees are far from finished this summer.
Each transfer has involved a little, or no, transfer fee, suggesting that a big-money move for Correa could be off the cards.
A big sale at the club could change their stance, however.
One name that has been frequently linked with a move away from Merseyside is Richarlison.
New boss Rafael Benitez has revealed that he has been “in contact” the Brazilian. He has been linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer.
Under Carlo Ancelotti, the forward impressed in 2020/21 as he was involved in ten goals from his 34 Premier League outings for Everton.
Ancelotti has since returned to Madrid to replace Zinedine Zidane. The Italian has reportedly contacted Richarlison over a move to La Liga.
