Everton line up £151.2m worth of deals; Silva eyes four more
Everton want at least four new signings this summer – but have had an opening bid for Wilfried Zaha rejected.
Having already signed Andre Gomes, Jonas Lossl and Fabian Delph for a combined £30.5m, the Toffees have already invested a fair amount in the squad.
But Marco Silva and Farhad Moshiri’s shared ambition of breaking into the top four, coupled with the £32.2m generated from the sales of Ademola Lookman, Nikola Vlasic and Antonee Robinson, will see Everton ramp up their spending in the final week or so of the transfer window.
An offer for Zaha, ranging between £55m (Sky Sports), £52m plus add-ons (The Sun), £52m (Daily Telegraph) and £50m (Daily Mirror) has been turned down, with The Guardian saying Crystal Palace are ‘adamant’ they won’t be selling the winger this summer.
The Sun corroborate that claim, saying that Palace are privately ‘insisting a second bid would be pointless’ as the sale of Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United means they no longer need the money.
The Daily Mirror believe ‘the structure of the payments’ were deemed unsatisfactory by Palace, who ‘have demanded’ £60m and ‘want most of that up front’. Everton would prefer instalments to be paid over five years.
The same newspaper says Everton are ‘also looking to negotiate’ with Juventus for £36m-rated striker Moise Kean, who ‘has been made available’ this summer.
The Toffees ‘are hugely reluctant’ to agree to a buy-back proposal, however, and talks ‘could depend on the fee’ they receive when Idrissa Gueye finally heads to PSG.
Having had a £21.5m offer rejected in January, the French champions have revisited their interest with a £28.7m bid for the 29-year-old, who is eager to join. With Everton ‘hoping to offload as many as a dozen players’ before the end of August, the sale of Gueye in particular ‘would allow them to pursue both’ Zaha and Kean.
The Liverpool Echo report that Silva ‘wants a centre-back, winger, striker and a new right-back,’ as well as any possible replacement for Gueye, before the deadline on August 8. A possible candidate for that final role is Mainz midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin, whose move to Goodison Park ‘is almost over’.
Fussball Transfers believe Gbamin ‘enters the legacy’ of Gueye, with the 23-year-old identified as the Ivorian’s successor. He ‘is close to joining’ for £31.5m.
