Everton were unsuccessful in €75m summer bid for Costa

Everton made an ambitious 75 million euro bid for Diego Costa during the summer, but failed in their attempts due to the players desire to move back to Atletico Madrid.

Spanish news outlet Marca report that Costa only ever had ambitions to return to his ‘spritual home’ at Atletico Madrid.

The strikers return to Atletico is yet to be formalised, but is expected to be announced on Monday once he signs the deal.

There was a lot of interest in the 28-year-old, including AC Milan, but any clubs that approached Chelsea were given the same answer – ‘Costa only wants to return to Atletico’.

Despite the ambitious bid from Everton close to the transfer deadline, if Marca are to be believed, no amount of money would have persuaded him to make a move to Merseyside over Madrid.
