Evra was particularly impressed with the performance of Robertson, who shone at left-back and has been in imperious form all season.

Former Manchester United defender Evra picked out his sublime cross for Jota’s goal as a “caviar” moment.

“Oh, I love it,” Evra told Sky Sports. “I think Robertson for so many years has been really consistent.

“Even if I feel there that Albrighton is being too quick. But what a delivery. I call it caviar. Voila!”

Evra even added some surprise support for striker Firmino, who capped a fine display with a header to make it 3-0 and silence his critics.

The Brazilian hit the post shortly beforehand and seemed set for another frustrating evening in front of goal before finally beating Kasper Schmeichel from a corner.

“Jurgen Klopp will be really pleased with his players. To be honest, we were happy,” he said.

“Even as a United fan, to be fair, when I saw Firmino score I was quite happy because he’s struggling a lot. He’s a great performer. That’s what I want to see.”

After host David Jones joked, “I never thought I’d see it from you, Patrice, celebrating a Liverpool goal,” Evra replied: “I was really surprised – I must be too tired. It’s been a long day.

“That’s why I was celebrating because I thought it was United playing!”
