Ex-Chelsea man tips club to sell Morata in January

Former Chelsea defender Gary Chivers believes his former club will waste no time in replacing Morata once the winter transfer window is open for business in 47 days time.

Morata has struggled to live up to his billing since coming to Stamford Bridge from Real Madrid in 2017.

The fee for his services was reported to be around £60million, with his return of five league goals so far this season, coupled with his tally of 11 last time around failing to justify the price in the eyes of many.

Discussing Morata’s status at Chelsea, Chivers said: “He needs a couple of chances now to put away one.

“He’s still nothing for me but maybe they’re looking at that. Maybe they’re looking at the January transfer window and waiting for that to come.

“It is something that obviously needs addressing. You’ve got Olivier Giroud, who comes on and plays well, they’ve been in and out the pair of them this year.”

Morata put in one of his strongest displays in Chelsea colours in the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on 4th November, as he netted a brace.  Morata admitted to Sky Sports however, that he was going through a tough period.

“It is very hard because the Premier League is the most competitive league in the world. It will be very difficult. We want to take all the points. It is the only way to try to fight for the league.

“When you have a bad period, it takes long to recover. Last year was difficult for me for many things. You don’t expect an injury but now I am good, it is nice to be scoring.”
