Morgan Schneiderlin has admitted that he “very quickly regretted” leaving Man Utd when he departed to join Everton in 2017.

The Frenchman made the move to England in 2008 as he joined Southampton.

After seven years with the Saints, Schneiderlin signed for Man Utd ahead of the 2015/16 season for around £25m.

The midfielder was an ever-present during his debut campaign as he played 39 times for Man Utd across all competitions.

He fell down the pecking order in 2016/17 though as he was only involved in three Premier League games up until the January transfer window.

Man Utd let him leave in January as he reunited with Ronald Koeman at Everton. The Dutchman previously managed him at Southampton.

Schneiderlin was bought for £20m and he spent three and a half years with the Toffees. He has been with French outfit Nice for the last two seasons.

He has now revealed that he “learned a lot” from his Man Utd exit:

“I learned a lot from my departure from Manchester United. I had played 40 matches the previous season with Manchester. When I come back from the Euros, I take ten days off and I play very little for three, four months,” Schneiderlin said (via Sport Witness).

“Then, I have Ronald Koeman and Everton who are pushing hard to get me, every day, from October. I will remember it all my life: I should have played against Liverpool (October 17, 2016), starter, and the coach (José Mourinho) comes to see me. He tells me he doesn’t feel me inside the group. I tell him that indeed, with what has happened in the last three months, I am not in it and I want to go to Everton.

“I regretted it very quickly. Even if it went very well at Everton, when you play for Manchester United, when you’re at a club like that, it’s not for a moment of doubt that you have to question everything. Look at Ander Herrera: the first year I arrived, he was on the bench; he persevered, and today he is at PSG.”
