Ex-Liverpool player tells club to sign Atletico star

Former Liverpool player Steve Nicol believes that Jurgen Klopp must try and sign Diego Godin from Atletico Madrid.

Liverpool have been linked with Croatian Domagoj Vida to give him an extra central defensive option. Klopp has Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren, with Joe Gomez and Ragnar Klavan in reserve.

Liverpool reportedly made a £20m move for Vida, but Nicol has other ideas. And they are ballsy.

“Should Liverpool sign Vida? I would say no,” Nicol told ESPN.

“If I could right now, I would go to Atletico Madrid and get Diego Godin.

“He’s got another couple of seasons left in him and the guy is just an out-and-out defender who organises a defence.

Think that getting Godin out of Atletico might be difficult? Nicol cares not for your doubts:

“Liverpool got to the Champions League final last year – who got further last season, Liverpool or Atletico Madrid?

“How many times have Atletico Madrid won it? Zero. How many times have Liverpool won it? Five. It’s not a step down.”

So there.
