Former Manchester United and Watford forward Odion Ighalo would “seriously consider” a move to Newcastle United in January, according to reports.

Ighalo first played in England in 2014 as he joined Watford on loan from Udinese. He scored 35 league goals from his first 72 outings in the Premier League and Championship.

After a spell in the Chinese Super League, Ighalo returned to the Premier League in 2019 as he joined Man Utd on loan.

He scored five goals from his 19 appearances for United towards the back end of the 2019/20 campaign.

The forward’s loan was extended but he joined Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab on a permanent deal earlier this year. He has netted 19 times from his 27 outings for them.

Sky Sports are reporting that Al Shabab have “informally asked” Ighalo if he would be interested in a move to Newcastle.

They have stated that the player would “seriously consider” this move. The 32-year-old is out of contract in 2023.

Elsewhere, David Ginola has warned Newcastle United that their takeover could prove to be a “shambles”:

“We need to wait a little bit because we have new owners, new investors,” Ginola said.

“It is not going to be in a few weeks or in a few months. We’re thinking about three, four, five years.

“Obviously they are very proud of the club, they look forward to the new investment that will be made for the club.

“It’s going to be difficult. But I hope they are not going to use people within the club that are going to use silly investments.

“The main thing is to retrieve what is good on the pitch, the way of playing football.

“The players need to be devoted to the club and not just about wages.

“It’s relevant to say that the next year is crucial for the club, in terms of who they’re going to appoint as people who will decide in the name of Newcastle.

“Otherwise it’s going to be a shambles or a mess.

“They need people making the right decisions at the right time.”
