Saido Berahino pleaded not guilty to a drink-driving charge on Wednesday after swearing at journalists and photographers on his way in to court.

The Stoke City striker was not happy with the media attention he received on his arrival at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court and delivered an expletive-laden rant at the press.

Berahino, who quickly passed the assembled media, said: “What the f*ck are you doing, get the f*ck out the way, stupid. F*cking idiots.”

The 25-year-old was arrested and accused of being over the legal drink drive limit when he was pulled over in Bloomsbury at just after 3am on February 18.

His lawyer, Jake Taylor, told the court he will put forward a defence of “duress of circumstance” at his trial.

“The defendant, shortly before the arrest by police, was the victim of a robbery,” added Taylor.

Berahino pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol and was bailed to appear for trial at Highbury Magistrates on May 15.

The robbery allegation remains under investigation by the Met Police.
