How Ralf Rangnick fared against Klopp, Tuchel and Rodgers
New Man Utd boss Ralf Rangnick has an impressive record against Jurgen Klopp. But Thomas Tuchel appears to have mastered his mentor.
Here’s how Rangnick has fared against the three current Premier League managers that he has previously faced.

“One of the best, if not the best German coach,” is how Klopp has described Rangnick in the past and the incoming Manchester United manager has had the better of his meetings with his compatriot, even if they haven’t faced each other in a decade. It has generally been tight, though, with only two of their 13 clashes settled by more than one goal. Rangnick has only faced two other coaches – Thomas Schaf and Felix Magath – more often than Klopp and one of the seven trophies Rangnick has won as a coach came against Dortmund in the 2011 DFL Super Cup final.

Rangnick has had considerably less joy against Tuchel. The incoming United boss lost all four of his first meetings with the Chelsea boss when Tuchel managed Mainz. Has the apprentice become the master?

Rodgers, one of the early favourites for the United job, met Rangnick in the 2018/19 Europa League, with each coach coming out on top on home soil. But it was Rodgers who had the last laugh, with Celtic qualifying out of the group while Leipzig finished third after losing the Red Bull derby to Salzburg and drawing with Rosenborg.
