Messi, Mbappe put PSG top of the pile, City score most of Prem clubs as Liverpool misfire

Ian Watson

It helps PSG that they have the World Cup joint-top scorers on their payroll. Chelsea, Man Utd and Spurs are all level, way ahead of Liverpool.

Here are the top-scoring clubs in Qatar. When sides are level on goals, number of scorers are used…

1) PSG – 13
Lionel Messi 5, Kylian Mbappe 5, Neymar 2, Carlos Soler 1
PSG have a full XI at the World Cup but only one player representing France. Luckily it’s the joint-top scorer. It helps that the other top scorer also happens to play for them.

2) Barcelona – 8
Robert Lewandowski 2, Ferran Torres 2, Andreas Christensen 1, Gavi 1, Frenkie De Jong 1, Memphis Depay 1
Barca are the club most heavily-represented in Qatar, so it makes sense they have the highest number of individual scorers too.

3) Man City – 8
Julian Alvarez 4, Manuel Akanji 1, Phil Foden 1, Jack Grealish 1, Ilkay Gundogan 1
City could still leapfrog Barca into second with Alvarez set to line up for Argentina in the final.

4) AC Milan – 7
Olivier Giroud 4, Rafael Leao 3, Theo Hernandez 1
FAO: Martin Samuel…

5) Chelsea – 6
Kai Havertz 2, Kalidou Koulibaly 1, Christian Pulisic 1, Raheem Sterling 1, Hakim Ziyech 1
Graham Potter will need these lads to bring their goalscoring form back to west London since Chelsea are getting short on strikers.

=6) Manchester United – 6
Marcus Rashford 3, Bruno Fernandes 2, Casemiro 1
United are relying on their centre-backs to increase their tally in the final, with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez lining up against one another.

=6) Tottenham – 6
Richarlison 3, Harry Kane 2, Ivan Perisic 1
It should have been seven for Tottenham. Lord, why wasn’t it seven…

8) Atletico Madrid – 5
Alvaro Morata 3, Joao Felix 1, Nahuel Molina 1
Atletico’s best performer at the World Cup hasn’t yet scored, but Antoine Griezmann will be among four players representing the Rojiblancos in the final, the highest number of any club.

9) Ajax – 4
Mohammed Kudus 2, Daley Blind 1, Davy Klaassen 1
Kudus caught the eye, returned to Ajax, and promptly told them he wanted to leave, apparently. Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund fancy their chances.

=10) Benfica – 4
Goncalo Ramos 3, Enzo Fernandez 1
Ramos’s suitors could have had him for £17million in the summer. Not any more. Benfica could make a sodding fortune on their two goalscorers before the start of next season.

=10) Fenerbahce – 4
Enner Valencia 3, Michy Batshuayi 1
Valencia shot out of the traps in the race for the Golden Boot, but both Fenerbahce scorers were back in Turkey before the knockout stage began.

=12) Bayern Munich – 3
Alphonso Davies 1, Serge Gnabry 1, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting 1

=12) Real Madrid – 3
Aurelien Tchouameni 1, Vinicius Jr 1, Marco Asensio 1

=14) Jeonbuk – 3
Cho Geusung 2, Paik Seung-ho 1,

=14) Porto – 3
Mehdi Taremi 2, Pepe 1

=14) Al-Hilal – 3
Salem Al-Dawsari 2, Saleh Al-Shehri 1

=14) Besiktas – 3
Wout Weghorst 2, Romain Saiss 1

=18) Arsenal – 3
Bukayo Saka 3

=18) PSV Eindhoven – 3
Cody Gakpo 3

=20) Club Sport Herediano – 2
Yeltsin Tejeda 1, Keysher Fuller 1

=20) Borussia Dortmund – 2
Jude Bellingham 1, Raphaël Guerreiro 1

=20) Brighton – 2
Moises Caicedo 1, Alexis Mac Allister 1

=20) Juventus – 2
Adrien Rabiot 1, Dusan Vlahovic 1

=24) Flamengo – 2
Giorgian De Arrascaeta 2

=24) Fulham – 2
Aleksandar Mitrovic 2

=24) Monaco – 2
Breel Embolo 2

=24) Freiburg – 2
Ritsu Doan 2
