Roy Keane thinks Mikel Arteta is a “sore loser” and reckons Manchester United deserved “a little bit of credit” after beating Arsenal 3-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Red Devils have recovered well after losing their first two matches of the season under Erik ten Hag as victory over the Gunners means they have now won four Premier League matches in a row.

Arsenal deservedly equalised through Bukayo Saka on 60 minutes when his goal cancelled out Antony’s debut goal in the first half for Man Utd.

But Marcus Rashford showed he’s not lost his scoring touch by scoring a brace to wrap up victory and push Man Utd up to fifth in the Premier League standings.

It could’ve been very different if Gabriel Martinelli’s 12th-minute goal, which VAR ruled out, had been allowed to stand.

VAR advised referee Paul Tierney to look at a challenge from Martin Odegaard on Christian Eriksen in the build-up to the goal and he deemed it enough to rule out Martinelli’s strike.

On the disallowed goal, Arsenal boss Arteta said: “Today it is a foul and you could see the officials in the first actions, you could see there were strong tackles but no yellow cards because they wanted to raise the threshold because it’s a big game.

“Really difficult to understand.”

Arteta added: “The referee said it was a really soft decision – we just ask for consistency, today we disallowed the goal again, there is nothing we can unfortunately do now.”

Reacting to Arteta’s complaints, Keane responded on Sky Sports: “I’m fed up of all their excuses. I’m serious. Arteta gets interviewed after the game, he’s a sore loser, like us all.

“He’s got to give a little bit of credit to Man United but he never does. Every time he loses a game it’s all about what the opposition didn’t do properly or the officials. Stop making excuses.

“You lost the game 3-1, you’ve done okay. Take your plaudits but give me the points any day of the week.”

Arsenal remain top of the Premier League and Arteta was convinced after the match that not “many teams” will come to Old Trafford and play as well as his team this season.

Arteta continued: “We have to live consistently with the top teams and challenging at the top of this league you have to come here and play the way you play.

“To play the way they (Arsenal) did today, I don’t think you will see too many teams do this season.

“What I saw is a very different Arsenal team who came here and played the way we want to play against world-class players. Unfortunately we didn’t get the result we deserved.”
