Fellaini ruled out of United’s trip to CSKA Moscow

Marouane Fellaini will miss Manchester United’s Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow on Wednesday through injury, according to reports.

The BBC claims that Fellaini “was not in the squad that left Manchester this afternoon, having failed to recover from the ankle injury he sustained in Saturday’s Premier League game at Southampton.”

The Belgium international was on the receiving end of a tough tackle from Saints striker Shane Long, with TV replays showing that the Republic of Ireland international got nowhere near the ball.

It remains unclear how long Fellaini could be out forĀ  and Bryan Robson – writing in his column for the Daily Mail – thinks the key to Champions League success for Jose Mourinho’s side is staying injury-free.

“Injuries will be key,” Robson wrote on Monday.

“The squad is strong but Pogba has his hamstring problem while Matic and Marouane Fellaini picked up knocks against Southampton.

“United can cope but won’t want too many injuries in the same area of the pitch, especially one as crucial as central midfield.”
