Fenerbahce confirm talks with Skrtel over £5m deal
Martin Skrtel is nearing his exit from Liverpool after Turkish club Fenerbahce confirmed they would hold talks with the defender.
Skrtel has spent the past eight years at Anfield after joining from Zenit St Petersburg in 2008.
The central defender has won one League Cup during his tenure with the club, but his performances have dropped drastically.
The Slovakian was phased out as the club’s starting central defender under Jurgen Klopp last season, but still started 21 games in an injury-hit campaign for the Reds.
Fenerbahce confirmed that they had entered talks with the Premier League side with regards to signing the 31-year-old this summer, but that his involvement with Slovakia at Euro 2016 was holding up the deal.
The Turkish club have now stated on their official website that talks with begin with Skrtel, and a move is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
