Rio Ferdinand names four players Man Utd should ‘get rid’ of this summer – ‘£100m sitting there!’

Rio Ferdinand thinks Manchester United could raise around £100m by selling four squad players during this summer’s transfer window.
The Red Devils have improved since Erik ten Hag took over last summer but signings will be required if they want to challenge for the Premier League title last season.
Harry Kane, Mason Mount and Declan Rice are among the players they are being linked with but their budget (without sales taken into account) is expected to be around £100m.
Man Utd will need to sell players to raise funds for their own signings and Ferdinand reckons they should let Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire, Anthony Elanga and Anthony Martial leave this summer.
“McTominay hasn’t played much football, not as much as he would like,” Ferdinand told the Vibe with Five podcast.
“If I was him as a young player I would probably start assessing that situation and start having real hard conversations with the club [asking] ‘do you see me as part of it or not?’.
“If I’m that far down the pecking order I would start looking and I don’t think he will have a problem finding a club, he is a very good footballer and he can add a lot of value. Maguire has to look at a new option for himself. Unless he says he’s happy to be the third or fourth choice.
“Elanga maybe [is another], he is not getting a chance. Martial has proved that he can’t stay fit. I think if you got rid of those four, there is £100million sitting there.
“Elanga isn’t getting the football he deserves. He did well when he came in and still isn’t getting a chance. Big players in front of him but he wants to be playing first team football.”

Ferdinand’s comments come after club legend Jaap Stam called on Maguire to rebuild his career “elsewhere”.
“Sometimes when I watch him play I have the feeling that he wants to prove himself and do too much to show what he is capable of and that is why sometimes he is making mistakes.
“Erik Ten Hag has different views about a centre-back and what they need to bring especially on the ball.
“He wants composure in finding that free man in midfield or up front and an ability to be the extra man going forward in midfield and being creative at times.
“It seems Ten Hag does not have the belief in Maguire and how he is playing that game. So for him the best thing is to go somewhere.”
