Bruno Fernandes has explained how the backroom staff at Manchester United have encouraged him to follow Cristiano Ronaldo’s example at Old Trafford.

The Portugal international has had a major impact having arrived in the Premier League, with his four goals and four assists coinciding with an upturn in the team’s results.

And comparisons are being made with his compatriot Ronaldo, despite playing in different positions.

And speaking to SoccerBible, Fernandes said he was quickly reminded about the impact Ronaldo had on the club when he first arrived.

“When I arrived at Manchester United, people in the kitchen would say ‘do you know, every day when Cristiano came in he would go around and say good morning to everyone.'” Fernandes recalled.

“Two ladies come to me every day and say ‘You know Cristiano did that, you need to do the same.’

“Manchester United are one of the biggest teams in the world. You need to respect the history of a club like this. When you join, you have to think about all those big players who have played there. Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Cristiano – I could stay here for a long time listing them…”

Fernandes also spoke about his ambitions to win the Premier League with United.

“You need to know that when you come and join a team like this, you have to focus on winning titles,” he added. “Titles are the most important thing. It doesn’t matter how you play but you have to play to win.

“This is the kind of team that is born to be at the top. The expectations I have for Manchester United are big. This is my dream club. But when I arrived I saw just how big it was.”
