First Vardy to Arsenal, now Riyad Mahrez?

Arsenal are in talks to sign Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez, according to an exclusive in The Sun.

With Arsenal already closing in on the surprise signing of Jamie Vardy, deputy digital news editor Daniel Cutts writes that Mahrez is also in talks to join Arsenal, with Arsene Wenger pleasantly surprised by the Algerian’s buy-out clause.

To be honest, this is the first we have heard of a Mahrez buy-out clause. The Sun say it stands at £25m, which would surely tempt another couple of clubs at least. Paris St Germain, Maybe?

It’s fair to say that The Sun are going big on this one, saying ‘Vardy is set to be joined by his PFA Player of the Year team-mate Mahrez’. They are going to look very silly if it doesn’t happen.

Last month, Leicester’s vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha claimed that Mahrez had told him he wanted to stay at the club.

“I want the players to enjoy this moment and not be concerned about their contracts,” Srivaddhanaprabha said.

“They are good boys and they understand. Even Mahrez, I talked to him and said ‘are you concerned?’ He said ‘no, no, I want to stay’. This is what he wants, he wants to stay.”

Will that be the case if Vardy and N’Golo Kante agree to leave?
