Former Arsenal star makes bold Man Utd claim and questions ‘commitment’ of players
Former Arsenal star Bacary Sagna has made a bold claim about where he thinks Manchester United will finish this season.
Erik ten Hag’s side have lost their momentum recently following a defeat against Liverpool and a goalless draw with Southampton.
As things stand, they are third in the league with a two point cushion above Tottenham who are fourth.
Newcastle and Liverpool are eyeing up a spot in the top four and they each have games in hand to make up on the sides above them.
Despite Man United’s position in the table right now, Sagna has doubts over whether they will finish in the top four.
When asked who he thinks will finish in the top four alongside Arsenal and Manchester City, he replied: “Newcastle United and Tottenham.
“The funny thing with Manchester United is that you never know what to expect from them before a game,” the former Arsenal defender told GGRecon.
“Sometimes they can be fantastic but sometimes you question the commitment of the players and the game against Liverpool is an example of that.
“It’s almost like they never all turn up at the same time. Marcus Rashford could be shining, but other players will be out of the game.
“I’m not sure they’ll finish in the top four and I can see Tottenham being in there more than Manchester United.
“Newcastle United have a game in hand and I can see them coming back, so they’re in a strong position at the moment.”
While Ten Hag’s side have lost some ground in recent weeks, it would take a huge capitulation for them to fall out of the top four.
This season they have averaged 1.92 points per game and are projected to finish the season with 73 points.
Last season that point tally would have been enough for a place in the top four and it would likely get them over the line this season.
Ten Hag’s side are now focusing on their Europa League trip to Real Betis before they host Fulham in the FA Cup.
Man United aren’t in league action until the start of April when they then face a crunch match against Newcastle.
