Finland midfielder Glen Kamara has penned a new Rangers contract to end interest from Arsenal and Watford.

The 25-year-old was a vital part of Rangers’ invincible season in 2020-21.

He made 28 Scottish Premiership appearances, scoring one goal, as Steven Gerrard’s men lifted the title on 102 points.

Arsenal were linked with his signature in early May. The Gunners thought they could lure Kamara back to England with a five-year deal.

Watford joined the transfer race in June, during his time representing Finland at Euro 2020.

Rangers managed to keep hold of their man and have now tied him down to new terms. The contract will keep Kamara at the Ibrox until June 2025.

After it was announced, Kamara told the club’s official website: “I am delighted to have committed my long-term future to Rangers.

“I have absolutely loved my time here and being a part of the title-winning team last season has given me the hunger to try to win even more in the seasons ahead.

“It was an easy decision for me to sign and I want to thank the manager, Ross Wilson and the board for the faith they have shown in me.”

Manager Gerrard added: “Glen is a highly respected member of our squad, who has displayed outstanding technical ability and leadership since he signed for Rangers. He plays an integral role in our system and is vital to our style of play.

“As a staff, we have really enjoyed watching him develop and thrive in our environment. Glen still has potential to achieve a lot more at Rangers, adding to his big contribution towards winning 55.

“His contract extension is not only great news for Glen as a player, but for everyone at Rangers.”

Meanwhile, recent Arsenal arrival Albert Sambi Lokonga has described the recent match against Burnley as ‘crazy’.

The Gunners picked up three points on Saturday thanks to Martin Odegaard’s free-kick.

Lokonga said: “It was a crazy game! They cross from everywhere and I was not used to it.

“People told me, ‘you’re going to see this is the real Premier League, typical English way to play’. I was not expecting this kind of play.”
