Liverpool should sign Gareth Bale for “that bit of X factor” to help them end their trophy drought.
The Reds are without a trophy since 2012, with Jurgen Klopp coming close to delivering silverware ever since his Anfield appointment in October 2015.
The German has reached three cup finals with Liverpool and lost each of them, the most recent coming against Real Madrid in the Champions League last season.
Bale settled that game with two goals, and former Liverpool defender Dominic Matteo feels the Reds should capitalise on the Welshman’s uncertainty over his future.
Asked whether Liverpool should sign Bale, Matteo replied: “We certainly wouldn’t say no.
“It’s a case of whether the financials could be done,” he told the Liverpool Echo.
“It would be a big signing.
“If he was coming back to England, I’m sure that everyone would take him.
“With Bale, when Madrid beat Liverpool in the final, he had that bit of X factor.
“Liverpool could maybe do with one more X factor player to score in the finals. That’s what we’ve lacked: that bit of X factor to get us over the line.”
