Matteo Darmian’s time at Manchester United could be numbered as Jose Mourinho has identified Timothy Fosu-Mensah as his possible first-choice right-back going forward, according to reports.
The Times claims that Mourinho will look to offload Darmian in the January transfer window after being impressed with Fosu-Mensah.
The 19-year-old signed a new deal at Old Trafford on Wednesday that will keep him at United for another four years plus the option of a further season.
Despite only starting the Dutchman twice in his time at the helm, Mourinho is thought to be a big admirer of the youngster’s talent, with the defender also making ten appearances under previous manager Louis van Gaal.

The report even claims that Mourinho rates Fosu-Mensah as highly as Marcus Rashford – who has become a regular in the United squad and now an England international – in terms of potential and talent.
Antonio Valencia has started every Premier League game this season at right-back for United and it’s understood that the Portuguese coach sees Fosu-Mensah as his natural replacement over time.
In complete contrast, Darmian had only started on one occasion this season before last night’s victory over Fenerbahce – in the 1-0 loss to Feyenoord in the Europa League – and is expected to be allowed to leave for the right deal when the window reopens in January.
