Fulham boss: ‘Playing for 0-0 not best plan’ v Spurs

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic accepts his squad will need time to get up to speed in the Premier League, but are ready for the challenge.

The Cottagers, promoted as Championship play-off winners, lost their opening game back in the top flight when beaten 2-0 at home by Crystal Palace.

Jokanovic takes his men back to Wembley for a Premier League showdown against Tottenham on Saturday.

“We have many new players and will need time. We worked well this week, building our spirit and working on the way we want to play football,” he said at a press conference.

“An amazing and great challenge is ahead of us, and we will do our best to fight for the points.”

Asked if Fulham will continue to play a passing style of football, Jokanovic said: “We will try, we believe it’s the best way we can be successful.

“If you believe it’s better to give them the ball and wait at the edge of the box and try and end the game with a 0-0. I’m not sure that is the best plan for us.

“In some parts of the defensive work, you don’t need to be so talented but be organised, show great decision making off the ball.

“It’s a great opportunity. Now its different because we’re a Premier League team and an amazing challenge is ahead of us.

“We have fought for the opportunity to play these types of clubs.

“We have experience playing against them in the FA Cup a year ago and it wasn’t an easy day for us. But they haven’t changed much and we might see a similar starting XI for Spurs.”
